The Artist Colony Formerly known as "Sea Frolic"

The Sea Frolic Artist Colony started when Bibb Latane overheard artists Doug Stuber and Robert Cvetkovski talk about the importance of art colonies in their careers.  After many stops and starts the colony opened at the Sea Frolic, in Highland, Beach Florida,  with a flurry of productivity by Sergej Andreevski, Barbara Burck, Robert Cevtkovski, Murry Handler, Warren Hicks, Robert Janz, Nancy Smythe, Doug Stuber and Magdo Waselewski.   Soon Michael Mosca and Donghyun Rhee joined, as the creative energy reached near-perfect pitch.

Halfway through the colony, the artists voted to move, which was a very painful choice, made when the town of Highland Beach deemed the buildings unsafe to sleep in.  We left on April 16, right in the middle of an open house that was intended to show off the work of the very artists who were leaving.  Those who were slated for the second half of the colony included Eileen d'Esterno, Jane Filer, Eduardo Lapetina, Pavel Nickitchencko,  and Jacqi Schechter.  Jane Filer decided to rent a house at the beach in North Carolina, but Lori Guess and Eduardo Lapetina joined the colony in Chapel Hill, with Carey Rothman, Eileen d'Esterno and Pavel Nickitchencko missing in action.

The colony remains optimistic about the future of the labors needed to initiate the event, and it is clear that bigger and better colonies will spring from the Cedar Park Artist colony, which is our new name, taken from the tree-lines dirt road that winds up to 4404 Cedar Pass off New Hope Church Road, north of Chapel Hill.  The new location of the colony mixes forest and meadow, artists with nature.

Please enjoy the efforts of the artists who persevered and created a month of magic here and in Florida.
